KinKi Kids World is for all English-speaking KinKi Kids fans who, despite the language barrier, have found themselves falling in love with KinKi Kids and their music, this is my humble attempt to bring us all closer to the world of KinKi Kids - Domoto Tsuyoshi 堂本刚 (244) and Domoto Koichi 堂本光一(51).

The contents of this blog are based primarily on contents found in other Chinese blogs, as I have only just started learning Japanese (which is とても むずがしです i.e. very difficult). I wish to thank all the Chinese Kinki Kids fans for their hard work and efforts in translating the Japanese materials/information on the KinKi Kids.

KinKi Kids on Utaban 090129 - Yakusoku (Part 1): The Wall is Koichi's Friend?!?! Koichi is a Still Life Painting?!?!

Please click here to listen to the song tracks in KinKi Kids' newest 28th single CD - Yakusoku. The songs are really beautiful!

*Credit Acknowledgement: The pictures are cut from the video uploaded by 小兔仔子.

KinKi Kids talk video can be seen at YouTube: Part 1 and Part 2.

KinKi Kids appeared on Utaban for only about 15 minutes, including performing their 28th single - Yakusoku plus showing footage from their past appearances on Utaban at 18, 20 and 25 years old plus showing footage of a female calligraphy teacher writing the Kanji character of song (*Orz!*) 15 minutes is just too short! (But look at how long my post is.....in the end, I have to split my post into 3 or 4...or at least I hope that's all...*trying to sneak away quiety*)

Anyway, I was hoping for some KKL juicy bits to happen since Nakai-san appears to be the dai senpai (very senior) of the KKL cohort but no such luck this time. Oh well, if you don't mind me stretching things a bit, it's still possible to find some KKL elements in this episode. So read on with a pinch of salt (and there's a reason why I'm using the word "salt"! Please see Part 2 (or 3? or 4?......) for the answer! *Fufufufu*).

In this episode, Tsuyoshi is mainly doing the talking but his talking is ALL about ONE particular person. And that person is......(drumroll) his one and only partner, KOICHI!
(You guessed correctly?! Wow, good for you! Kekekekeke!)

The Wall is Koichi's Friend?!?!

Nakai asked them was there anything they felt different for the 2008 summer tour around Japan since their last one 8 years ago. Tsuyoshi lost no time in starting his "complaints" about his beloved partner. He said that for this tour, they had had more opportunities to go out for dinner together. The two of them would usually sit at the corner of the table and Koichi would maintain the same pose (looks like a stoned expression based on Tsuyoshi's demo...lol) most of the time, and after taking a sip of alcohol from his cup, Koichi will make a very soft "haiz" sound.
(My my, someone is very observant of Koichi's slightest gesture! *Fufufu*)
(Look at how merrily Koichi is laughing away!)

Koichi then commented that there would usually be a wall or a pillar beside him where he's sitting, and that he would somehow become quite well acquainted with them.
(......! Well, Nakai understood it to mean Koichi would fall asleep leaning against the wall or pillar.)
(KKL heart04 Whisper: Look at how sweetly Tsuyoshi is smiling at Koichi! I guess even silly things Koichi does would appear kawaii in Tsuyoshi's eyes! *fufufu* heart04Rating: ♡)

Tsuyoshi then said that usually, after about 2 hours or so, people would start mixing around or join in conversations that they find interesting, but Koichi would remain exactly where he was, and Koichi actually nodded his head in agreement.
Nakai commented that Koichi would then be akin to a still life painting and Tsuyoshi without missing a beat affirmed it!
(Lol! Well, if Koichi is a still life painting, he would probably make a very beautiful one!)
Nagai asked if it was because Koichi was not interested in the discussion topics. Koichi's reply to that was an implicit yes as he said that he always felt quite apologetic about it. And Tsuyoshi burst out laughing on hearing his partner's answer.
(Well, considering that Koichi's idea of interesting is the Theory of Relativity......need I say more?! *kekeke*)
After having fun divulging his partner's "anti-social" behaviour, Tsuyoshi then very seriously tried to explain Koichi's behaviour. The way he said it was like a concerned mother commenting on her kid. He said that Koichi was always worried that he will create trouble for or be a burden to others. But he would later think about who was the person who said this and that.
(I'm not too sure what Tsuyoshi meant here but I think he's probably saying that Koichi feels bad about participating in people's conversations in case his presence is not wanted. However, though he appears not to be participating, he is in fact listening and he would later think back about what they said.)
(KKL heart04 Whisper: You can see that Tsuyoshi is slightly uptight during the explanation. Perhaps there were people who misunderstood Koichi's behaviour as being cold or anti-social, and he's feeling aggrieved for Koichi. The 2 of them are really a family to each other. On a lighter note, Tsuyoshi could only have said the things he said because Koichi has been sharing with Tsuyoshi his thoughts of what people said after their dinner outings!

KinKi Kids on Music Station Special 090130:

Tsuyoshi's Love Fighter 2009.01.30: The Rain is Falling, Is There Someone Crying? Being Alive Is Really A Beautiful Thing ...

The rain is falling
Somehow I feel sad

The rain is falling
Somehow it feels heartbreaking

The rain is falling
Is there someone
at some place crying right now?

Being alive is
really a beautiful thing ...

I really really love Tsuyoshi's sweet character. Though the falling rain brought sadness to his heart, the thought that came to his mind was whether someone is out there somewhere crying away. And I guess he probably wanted to let that person know that being alive is really a wonderful thing. Tsuyoshi has always been sensitive and considerate of other persons' feelings, and this message once again affirms this.

All Song Tracks in KinKi Kids' 28th Single - Yakusoku

I really love all the 4 song tracks in KinKi Kids' newest 28th single - Yakusoku. All are ballads but each has a distinct flavour that makes it stand out amidst the usual sentimental music style available in the current pop scene.

Please do buy their CD if you like the songs as the competition in Japan music scene is very aggressive and the sales of the artistes there are ranked on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis on the Oricon charts (*faint*). The extent of an artiste's popularity will naturally impact on their whole career. So if you like KinKi Kids, please support them by buying their CD through online sources like YesAsia, PlayAsia, CD Japan, etc.

Track 1: 約束 Yakusoku (Promise)

When I first heard Yakusoku, I was overwhelmed by the rich visual imagery of the song. What came to my mind was a regency ballroom with lots of mirrors and gilt, and gentlemen in tux and ladies in ballgowns dancing away; but our protagonist was instead standing alone in the open balcony bathed in moonlight whilst behind him, the ball carries on. Sad but beautiful imagery. KinKi Kids' voices have an amazing ability to harmonize very naturally and Tsuyoshi's slight metallic voice mellowed by Koichi's warm tones create a rich harmonized voice that powerfully brings across this imagery.

Yume hajime hana

Quite a number of fans have commented that this song has an oldie flavour to it. I share the same view but too often than not, we associate the word "oldie" with a negative connotation. I have to say that oldies tend to have a strong melody line and poetic lyrics, and people are thus better able to remember and sing or hum these tunes. Well, I haven't tried to translate the lyrics yet and will thus need to reserve my comments. However, I have to say that I already can't shake the chorus from my head - "Yume hajime hana, la la la la la la la......".

Tabidachi no hi (The day we set off on our journey)

This is my favourite of the lot! I really really love the simple sweet melody and it has been a while since we have a song with Koichi singing the lead part. Koichi's voice is good for the sweet and gentle music pieces. I think when more people discover this song, it should overtake the popularity of the other songs.

Track 3 (Normal Edition): Loving

At first, after hearing the above 3 songs, this one doesn't seem to stand out much by comparison. However, after I have re-listened to it again, I have to admit that I have also fallen in love with this song. Tsuyoshi has the lead part and I love the way he sings this song. The harmonising by Koichi also lends depth to this song. I especially love the part towards the end where Tsuyoshi belts out the words "Lo-v-ing you...". Though if Koichi had sung those words, the high notes would have sounded more crystal clear, Tsuyoshi's slightly strained high notes add a unique flavour that makes this part so memorable. Beautiful!

LYRICS

Track 1: 約束 Yakusoku (Promise)

Tabidachi no hi (The day we set off on our journey)
Lyrics by:Satomi
Arranged by:CHOKKAKU

Domoto Brothers #372 (090125): Gackt returns as guest after 6 years and leg-wrestles with KinKi Kids!

This episode of Domoto Brothers is super funny! You must not miss it!

Opening Song: Yakusoku

Gackt falling asleep during Domoto Brothers & the Burning Birthday Cake!?!

DB crew is very very bad! :P They showed past footage of Gackt falling asleep in 3 separate filming sessions. Super hilarious! I couldn't stop laughing. Watch out for Tsuyoshi in the little screen at the bottom left corner when he is laughing away. Kawaiiiii!

Gackt as always is so cool and composed even after he is caught falling asleep! He said that his seat (which is coincidentally where Takami-san is sitting now, and I said coincidentally cuz Takami-san is also notorious for falling asleep during filming *fufufu*) is filled with an evil aura that induces sleep! His excuses in the videos:-
1st video - his leg was numb
2nd video - he apologized (gomen gomen) and said his action had nothing to do with the talk going on
3rd video - he simply asked them to continue with the talk!
I must say Takami-san's snoozing is nothing compared to Gackt-kun's! Hahahahaha!

And there's also that "burning" birthday cake for Gackt's 427th birthday! Sure gave me a shock when Koichi pushed it in but Gackt just calmly threw a towel over the "burning" cake putting out the fire and then blew out the last few candles!

Super cool dude! You must not miss this video!!!

Tsuyoshi thinks leg wresting is smelly!?! Does Koichi really like that sort of guy that goes "Oh!" !?!

[TBC]

Flying Kisses by Gackt & Koichi! Uhmm...you sure Koichi is doing the same thing as Gackt?!
[TBC]

Oricon & Dwango Ranking of KinKi Kids' 28th Single: Yakusoku

Oricon NINKI度
Single Weekly Ranking

Oricon's Ninki chart shows that the expectancy rate for KinKi Kids' Yakusoku is 181.60 points, which is 103 points more than the 1st runner-up - GReeeeN's 78.6. YEAH!!! I like GReeeeN and I was for a moment worried that GReeeeN would do better than KinKi Kids. Well, I can now breath a sigh of relief. This pressure to maintain the record is stressful......

Dwango Download Weekly Ranking

KinKi Kids are also doing well in the Dwango download chart. Yakusoku took no. 1 and 5 positions and Yume hajime hana took 3rd position.

Music Station 090123: KinKi Kids' New 28th Single - Yakusoku

Mini Station
During the Mini Station, the two of them started fooling around by imitating Gackt's robotic dance movements, and before you know it, Koichi's hand smacked into Tsuyoshi's hand. Both of them were fanning their hands away in pain and Gackt said, "Retribution!". They were having so much fun that they kept missing the female host's questions! When the female host asked them what was special about their performance that night, Tsuyoshi immediately replied with a straight face, "Nai desu (nothing)!" and Koichi's melting snow laugh came on. Hahahahaha! Totally unrepentant, at the ending part of Mini Station, the two devils carried on with their imitation and even did an impromptu robotic rendition of Gackt's victory sign! Tsuyo did first and naturally Koichi had to follow suit! LOL!

KinKi Kids' New Single No. 28 Yakusoku 約束 PV is out!!!

When I first saw the PV, I have to admit I didn't know what to think...it just looked like a media player visualisation, with white and black bobs moving randomly around and no KinKi Kids in sight for about 40 seconds. It looks like this.

I was actually half-dreading that we wun even see much of the faces of KinKi Kids. Fortunately, the wait was worth it. KinKi Kids looked real good in the black and white setting! I guess a man no longer needs colours to bring attention to him. Instead, a man's strength and appeal stands out even more in a stark environment. Both Koichi and Tsuyoshi have really grown into themselves. The PV feels like the universe has been stripped to its very elements, with only the two of them left. This mood echoes the lyric lines in this song which roughly translated mean nobody else can enter into the world where there's the two of them.

Don't you think Tsuyoshi and Koichi look like warlocks who are controlling the elements around them in the above pics! Too bad they dun have the blue or red eyes in this PV!

And these next two are my favourite shots in this PV, especially the close-up of Koichi. He looks so sensual with his eyes closed.

Finally, after having my full of KinKi Kids *sigh in contentment*, even the white and black bobs have transcended into something poetic and symobolic (blame my literature training for being able to make a thesis out of bobs! :P) .

It's an interplay of light and darkness, of exact opposites. Now, doesn't that sound familar to you?!?! *fufufufu* And in the closing scene of the PV, the light and the darkness converge into one. Need I say more?! *blink blink* *fufufu*

This last pic is here purely for the comic effect. Dun you think Koichi looks like he has 2 dumbo ears and Tsuyoshi has a big Aladdin lamp stuck to the back of his head?! Hahahahahaha!!!

Domoto Brothers #371 (090118): Tsuyoshi sings Mr Children's Shirushi しるし

Tsuyoshi's rendition of Mr Children's Shirushi:
Credit to Dsarts5673 for the YouTube video:

This was the first time I've heard this song. Other than the chorus, I thought the song's melody line seemed quite flat. I decided to go listen to the original rendition of Shirushi by Mr Children, and I have to say, the song sounded very melodic when sung by them. So why did I think Tsuyoshi's rendition is flat when I first heard him sing?! So after listening to the original rendition and checking out the meaning of the lyrics, I re-listened to Tsuyoshi's singing and that's when my heart was stopped. I know now why I thought Tsuyoshi's singing sounded flat and unmelodic. You know, when you want to cry but refuse to do so, your voice is sort of choked up and your heart feels like it is being wrenched out from your body? Well, that was how Tsuyoshi was singing Shirushi. When Mr Children sings Shirushi, it's beautiful and sad; when Tsuyoshi sings Shirushi, it's raw and heart-wrenching. I am always amazed at how Tsuyoshi can interpret a song so differently from the original singer and yet, it sounds right. Try it out and you will know what I mean when I say it's very difficult to not copy the original singer's style. Tsuyoshi's singing is the type that will touch your soul if you are willing to put aside the conventional music preferences.

This episode is quite hilarious! The title headings and the videos are enough to speak for themselves.

KinKi Kids' Lesson No. 1: Ways not to flirt with a gal!

KinKi Kids' Lesson No. 2: I dun like it even if you stand far away from her!
Take note of someone's face at the back. Everybody is laughing away but he has a very strained smile on his face. Kekekeke!

KinKi Kids' Lesson No. 3: It's "Hore-rare-chya-u", not "Horare-rare-chya-u"!!!

KinKi Kids' Lesson No. 4: Never doubt that you are loved!

And right at the end, we have Koichi pointing his finger at Tsuyo and saying with such a cheeky smile on his face: "This is the evidence that you have fallen for me!"
(I hope we will have a chance to see what exactly happened that caused Koichi to have this outburst! *Fufufufu*)

And Tsuyoshi looked so kawaii when he couldn't help laughing out and replied something like: "Oh, is that so?"
(Hahahaha...notice that there was no denial from Tsuyo! And his expression looks quite coquettish, right?! And he's wearing that notorous diamond ring. Kekekeke!)

CM (30s) for KinKi Kids' New Single No. 28 - Yakusoku 約束

The CM for KinKi Kids' new single Yakusoku 約束 is out!!!

The two of them appeared to be so immersed in the sad mood of the song, and then before you know it, they......

Well, I guess only KinKi Kids dare to do this in a CM for a sad song! It looks like Tsusyoshi really loves his ugly twisted face look that he created for this 33 Minute Detective drama. And Koichi has his silly cheshire cat grin plastered on his face. Kawaiiiiii!!! LOL!
